About your trip

A Premium Fine Art Experience | Limited to 6 Participants

Spring in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a season of quiet transformation—flowing water, emerging greens, soft fog, and layered forests coming to life.

This workshop is designed as a complete photographic experience—from capture to final print.

Over six days, we’ll not only create compelling images in the field, but also refine and bring them to life as museum-quality fine art prints.

What Makes This Experience Premium

Exceptionally Small Group (Max 6)

This workshop is intentionally limited to just six participants.

This ensures:

  • Direct, personalized instruction throughout

  • Space to work creatively without pressure

  • A quiet, focused learning environment

The Experience

This is a six-day immersive workshop built around both fieldwork and creative refinement.

Each day is structured to maximize both:

Morning

  • Sunrise / early light field session

  • Waterfalls, streams, forest scenes, and atmospheric conditions

Midday

  • Rest and reset

  • Classroom instruction and image development

Afternoon / Evening

  • Late-day field session

  • Composition refinement and creative exploration

Daily Instruction & Creative Development

Each day includes dedicated class sessions focused on:

  • Composition and visual design

  • Working with soft light, fog, and atmosphere

  • Developing a cohesive body of work

  • Advanced post-processing techniques

This is not just field guidance—it’s a structured learning experience designed to elevate your photography.

What You’ll Photograph

  • Flowing mountain streams and cascading waterfalls

  • Fog-filled forests and layered ridgelines

  • Spring foliage and emerging greens

  • Intimate forest scenes and abstract compositions

  • Details often overlooked in more traditional landscape work

Who This Workshop Is For

This experience is ideal for photographers who:

  • Want to move beyond “capturing scenes” into creating art

  • Value small groups and personalized instruction

  • Are interested in the full process—from capture through print

  • Are serious about building a stronger, more cohesive portfolio

Travel & Logistics

This workshop is based in Townsend, often referred to as the “quiet side” of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Townsend offers:

  • Quick access to some of the park’s most photogenic locations

  • Fewer crowds than other areas of the Smokies

  • A relaxed, focused environment ideal for photography

Lodging & Classroom Location

We will be staying at the
Highland Manor Inn & Conference Center

This location serves as both:

  • Our base for the workshop

  • The classroom space for all midday sessions

Why This Matters

This setup allows for a seamless experience:

  • No commuting to class locations

  • Easy transition between field sessions and instruction

  • A comfortable, consistent environment for learning and editing

Midday sessions will include:

  • Image review and critique

  • Post-processing instruction

  • Fine art printing sessions

A rental car is strongly recommended for this workshop.

You’ll need transportation for:

Carpooling

We will help coordinate optional carpooling between participants.

  • Group dinners are often organized for those who wish to join

What to Expect Logistically

  • Short drives to most shooting locations

  • Minimal hiking (generally short walks on uneven terrain)

  • Easy access to waterfalls, streams, and forest scenes

This workshop is designed to be accessible while still highly productive.

Weather & Conditions

Spring in the Smokies is dynamic and ideal for photography:

  • Cool mornings and mild afternoons

  • Frequent fog and mist

  • Occasional rain (excellent for forest and waterfall photography)

We actively embrace these conditions—they often produce the best images of the workshop.

Communication & Preparation

Prior to the workshop, you’ll receive:

  • A detailed welcome guide

  • Gear and packing recommendations

  • Suggested arrival/departure timing

  • Access to group communication for coordination

Final Notes

This workshop is designed to be logistically simple and creatively immersive.

Once you arrive in Townsend, everything is structured so you can:

  • Focus fully on your photography

  • Learn in a comfortable, supportive environment

  • Experience the Smokies at a deeper level
